Women's Mental Health Center

Mary Jane

I served as an Army nurse in Vietnam 1968-1969. Although I had the symptoms of PTSD soon after the events there, my civilian psychiatric treatment did not address PTSD issues. More than three decades later, I found treatment from kind, very knowledgeable caregivers at my local Veteran's Hospital. Further treatment brought me to the Women's Trauma Recovery Program. I recommend it enthusiastically to whose suffering with PTSD. What a difference it makes to have support, understanding and knowledge.

I write with great gratitude and to thank the staff at VA. My thanks has grown with the time passed. I do not believe I would still be alive without the experience there. Thanks also to Sherry, my former roommate at WTRP.

I still struggle, but it is different and less frightening. I have succeeded in reclaiming my house from the abusive renter, gone to vocational rehab and had to drop out when I got too symptomatic, and spent some time with my long estranged family. Now I have a dog who is good company. She triggers me when she barks and yet I am still glad for her loyal companionship!!

I am currently in a Coping Skills group using the book " I Can't Get Over It", good help too.

The personal attention and the hand holding will never be forgotten. A physical touch and being there made a huge difference. Your skills and human warmth are the best!!!

From the bottom of my heart, I thank and thank you. May your lives be blessed and may you continue to be just who you are.
